The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. Sunday at a home in Santa Rosa County.
Santa County Sheriff Bob Johnson held a news conference Tuesday morning, saying Michael Delmar fatally shot his 42-year-old wife, Katie Delmar, in the murder-suicide.
According to the incident report, Michael Delmar burst into a room with a gun in hand and started choking Katie Delmar. He then dragged her into the living room, where he shot her multiple times, according to documents.
The report states the children ran out of the house screaming -- with one child running to the home of a neighbor, who is an Okaloosa County deputy.
Johnson said the off-duty deputy called 911, alerting deputies about gunshots and stating a child was at his door with a gunshot wound to the leg.
According to the report, deputies arrived and urged Michael Delmar to exit the house. Johnson said the neighborhood was also evacuated.
The report states SWAT eventually entered the home and found the couple dead.
Two injured children -- including the one with a gunshot wound -- were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital for treatment. Johnson said the three children are ages 4, 8, and 13.
According to Johnson, deputies responded to the home two times in the past for domestic incidents -- 2015 and 2022. Both were verbal arguments that didn't result in arrests.
Jail records show Michael Delmar was arrested in 2015 for petit theft.
