Trump-backed candidates pick up primary wins in Maine, Nevada, South Carolina

Two of the wins come as the Republican Party's House majority faces an uncertain future. Multiple congressional candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump won their primary elections in Maine, Nevada, and South Carolina. State Rep. Austin Theriault, R-Fort Kent, and Army veteran Sam Brown, who is running in Nevada’s Senate race, will face off against incumbents in their general elections. All three candidates benefited from Trump's support as the GOP‘s House majority faces uncertain future due to potential seat flips and vacancies. In South Carolina, Rep. Nancy Mace secured her status as the Republican choice in November as she seeks reelection to South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. Brown pledged to help carry out the “America First Agenda” and promote the Duty First political action committee.

Multiple congressional candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump won their primary elections on Tuesday.

Maine state Rep. Austin Theriault, R-Fort Kent, and Army veteran Sam Brown, who is running in Nevada’s Senate race, will square off against incumbents in their general elections. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., secured her status as the Republican choice in November as she seeks reelection to South Carolina's 1st Congressional District.

All three candidates leveraged Trump’s support as the GOP’s House majority faces an uncertain future with potential seat flips and recent vacancies.

State Rep. Theriault, who looks to unseat Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, received Trump’s endorsement in March. The former president encouraged voters to show up at the polls this week.

“In Congress, Austin Theriault will work hard to Secure the Border, Protect our always under siege Second Amendment, Stop Crime, Cut Taxes, and Support our Brave Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Austin Theriault has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Brown, who will face off against Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nev., received Trump’s support Sunday. Trump touted Brown’s military experience when comparing him to President Joe Biden, who he alleged is a domestic threat.

Brown has pledged to help carry out the “America First Agenda,” which prioritizes nationalistic policies. He has also promoted the Duty First political action committee, which rides on conservative values.

“I am honored to have President Trump’s endorsement of our grassroots Duty First movement for U.S. Senate. Together, we will work towards delivering a better future for every Nevadan!” Brown said. “Our message to every American is clear: relief from the Biden-Rosen American Nightmare will soon be here and the hope of the American Dream will be restored!”

In South Carolina, Rep. Mace embraced Trump’s endorsement this year after the former president criticized her during the state’s 2022 primary. The congresswoman said Trump endorsed her this time because she is the only candidate he can trust. The former president called Rep. Mace a “Strong Conservative Voice.".

"She is fighting to Secure the Border, Strengthen our Military, Support our Veterans, Uphold the Rule of Law, Stop Political Weaponization, and Protect and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote.
