FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WKRC) - A Spirit Airlines passenger caught an airport employee with her luggage after her Apple Watch pinged.

According to The New York Post, Spirit flyer Paola Garcia's luggage somehow vanished at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. After returning home to Florida, Garcia went to the airport's carousel to pick up her luggage, which contained several Apple products, including her personal MacBook laptop and two Apple watches, per WPLG.

“In my mind, I’m thinking I need my computer because I go to the university, I need my computer no matter what,” Garcia told WPLG's reporters. “I was waiting there at least two hours.”

Garcia told the outlet that she typically carries the small bag onto her flights, but was forced to check it in on that particular day.

The luggage never arrived, however.

According to WPLG, Garcia spoke with Spirit Airlines staff, who told her not to worry.

“We sent your luggage to your house, so I give my address to Spirit,” Garcia told WPLG.

Per the outlet, however, Garcia received a ping from her Apple watch, but not from the airport. Speaking to WPLG, Garcia said her Apple Watch was pinging from a location that was fifteen minutes away from the airport, and so she decided to go there.

“Yes, because I said how can Spirit deliver my suitcase there. Yes, because I needed my computer. I have test that day,” Garcia told WPLG when asked why she decided to go.

Garcia ended up at the residence of 29-year-old Junior Bazile, who worked at Paradies Shops, a retail store at the airport. At the home, Garcia told WPLG that she noticed several suitcases all over the area and began taking video before calling 911.

"The first thing the police told me was like, ‘What are you doing here? This is so dangerous for you to be here,’” Garcia told the station.

When authorities arrived on the scene, Bazile had already gotten rid of Garcia's possessions, per WPLG.

The Broward Sheriff's Office discovered that Bazile had been working the day Garcia's luggage disappeared. An investigation turned up images of Bazile rummaging through Garcia's luggage in the back of the store where he was employed.

Bazile was arrested and charged with grand theft, which is a felony offense in Florida if the stolen items are valued over $750, per The Post.

“We issued a reimbursement check to the guest as a courtesy, even though we are not currently aware of any evidence that any Spirit employee was involved. We take any allegation of this nature seriously, and we are investigating," Spirit Airlines said in a statement to WPLG.

The Paradies Shops said the company had no comment when contacted by WPLG.

Garcia told WPLG that she was concerned that Brazile was just one member of a larger operation at the airport.

“Personally, I don’t think it’s one person working in the airport, I think it’s a group,” Garcia told WPLG. “One person can’t just do that, take bags.”

Authorities did not say how Bazile was able to get Garcia's suitcase.
